Job Duties

Under the direct supervision of research staffs, the successful candidates will perform a wide range of research-related activities, especially, but not limited to, the following activities:

  1. Conduct literature searches on specified topics as requested.
  2. Review Law and Regulations
  3. Assist researchers in maintaining databases and coordinate with statistical agencies.
  4. Provide statistical analysis as requested.
  5. Organize and attend meetings/workshops/conferences/FGDs related to research activities.
  6. Provide research related work which includes writing and/or editing research reports and documents.
  7. Perform other research activities as necessary.

Qualifications

1. Education and experience

  1. Master’s degree in Economics, Law, Development Economics, Statistics, and/or other related fields; or Undergraduate degree in Economics Development Economics, Statistics, and/or other related fields with at least two years of relevant experience.
  2. Strong academic record.

2. Key competencies

  1. Training and/or experience in conducting quantitative research work.
  2. Essential skills in using economic databases, such as Econlit, CEIC, WITS, EIU, WIOD, Survey, etc.
  3. Essential skills in using some statistical or programming software packages, especially STATA.
  4. Capacity to adapt and take initiatives and ability to undertake simultaneous tasks.
  5. Ability to cooperate and communicate with academics and policy makers in the region.
  6. Excellent communication and writing skills in English.
  7. Comfort working both independently and collectively in a team with the other ERIA staffs.

Qualifications

Objectives

The internship provides an opportunity for the intern to gain experience working in an international research organization and provide the intern with the opportunity to learn about research, analytical thinking, and policy recommendations. The intern will gain knowledge of substantive, operational, managerial, and administration skills. The ERIA seeks a research associate intern to work together with ERIA Team to support The Government of Indonesia to succeed the 2023 Chairmanship of ASEAN.

Job Duties

The Research Associate Intern is expected to:

  1. Support the Intern tasks
  2. Conduct literature searches on specified topics as requested
  3. Collect and organize data and provide statistical analysis as requested
  4. Organize official meetings/workshops and take minutes
  5. Assist in supporting related work which includes writing and/or editing reports, policy briefs, and official documents.
  6. Coordinate meetings with the ASEC and ASEAN Governments
  7. Conduct other relevant duties as may be assigned by Trade Specialist Intern from the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia and ERIA coordinator team

Time Frame

Duration of the internship is 1 (one) year, starting from 20 January 2023 to 30 December 2023, with possibility of an extension for another year. The Interns is expected to be working part time (2-3 days in a week) at ERIA office.

Qualifications and Skills

  1. Undergraduate degree in Economics, Development Economics, Statistics, and/or other related fields (Masteral degree is preferrable)
  2. Minimum 2 years of relevant experiences
  3. Essential skills in using economic databases
  4. Essential skills in using some statistical or programming software packages
  5. Excellent communication and writing skills in English and Bahasa

Remuneration

The Research Associate Intern receives remuneration from ERIA for his/her services. ERIA will cover his/her travel expenses and provide allowance to support his/her duty trips approved by ERIA during the duration of the internship, based on ERIA rules and regulations.

Job Duties

Under broad direction of the Governing Board, President, and/or other senior management officials:

  1. Undertake analytical and quantitative policy-oriented works and propose policy recommendations on study topics related to deepening economic integration, narrowing development gaps, and sustainable development in East Asia.
  2. Manage policy-oriented research projects undertaken by economists and consultants contracted by ERIA.
  3. Liaise with governments, business representatives, and international organisations in East Asia and beyond.
  4. Attend meetings and symposiums, and represent ERIA as needed.
  5. Give lectures to the government officials.
  6. Supervise subordinate staff as needed.
  7. Perform other related duties as assigned by the ERIA President and/or other senior management officials.

Qualifications

  1. Education and experience

a. Ph.D in International Economics, Development Economics, Econometrics, Transport Economics, Political Economy of Economic Integration, or other related fields.

b. 5 years’ experience in the above fields or equivalent that can be proven by the record of articles published in professional or academic journals, edited volumes, and/or other major publications.

c. Knowledge of and research experience in Southeast Asia, East Asia, and South Asia are strongly preferred.

  2. Language requirements: high proficiency in oral and written English.

  1. Appointment Condition

a. Salary Benefits: 

i. Depending on the candidate’s degree and experience, salary will be US$100,000–US$125,000 per year, excluding housing and child education allowances.

ii. Junior or inexperienced experts who are qualified to be part of the ERIA expert team will receive US$70,000–US$90,000 per year as Associate Economists.

iii. Those with outstanding achievement in the academic and management fields will be remunerated with US$125,000–US$150,000 per year.

b. 2 year fixed term appointment in principle, with a probationary period of 6 months, renewable upon reappointment by the President, depending on performance and continuation of the Economist’s project(s).
